Court Marriage Eligibility Check in Pakistan

Understand consent, age, religion, nationality and remarriage questions before making arrangements. Start with the free check below.

A clear starting point

Can you proceed with a court marriage in Pakistan?

Start by checking free consent, the applicable age requirement, religion, nationality and each person’s current marital status. In ICT, Punjab and Sindh, the cited child-marriage laws use an under-18 definition for either person. Being 18 or older does not, by itself, establish eligibility. Use the free check below to identify questions that need individual review.

Before arranging a marriage, it helps to know which facts could change the route available to you. A previous marriage, a foreign passport or different religions can require more than a standard checklist. This guide helps you prepare those questions without asking for names, CNIC numbers or document uploads.

“Court marriage” is commonly used for a marriage arranged with legal assistance. The phrase is not a substitute for the applicable marriage law or registration requirements. This page focuses on readiness; detailed booking information is available through the service links below.

Choose your preferred PK Legal service office, then answer the questions about your circumstances. The check covers consent, age, religion, nationality, marital status and document readiness. Some answers lead to a request for individual advice rather than further questions.

Selecting an office does not establish where the marriage will take place or which law applies. Treat the result as a preparation aid, not permission to marry. If the check stops, confirm the reason and the applicable law with a qualified lawyer before making arrangements.

Your answers remain in the check while the page is open. You can review the message and choose whether to open a WhatsApp or email draft. You still press Send yourself. Other services used by the website may have their own privacy practices.

Minimum age: check the law for the place of marriage

For ICT, Punjab and Sindh, the cited Acts define a child as a person under 18, whether male or female. The table summarises those sources; it is not a nationwide age-law chart. Requirements elsewhere, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan, are outside this summary.

Age-law sources for three jurisdictions
JurisdictionAge thresholdWhat the cited law says
Islamabad Capital Territory18 for both peopleThe 2025 Act defines a child as under 18 and prohibits a Nikah registrar from registering a child marriage. ICT Act
Punjab18 for both peopleThe published 2026 Act defines a child as under 18 and prohibits registration of a child marriage. Punjab Act
Sindh18 for both peopleThe 2013 Act defines a child as under 18 and creates offences concerning child marriages. Sindh Act

On a small screen, scroll the table sideways to see every column.

If a person is under 18, do not use an online result to proceed. An already-performed nikah raises separate questions about its legal status and consequences; obtain advice about that situation rather than assuming registration will resolve it.

Different religions need individual legal review

Do not assume that every couple can use the same nikah or registration route. If the bride and groom have different religions, the applicable personal law and the proposed marriage process need to be considered together.

This guide does not provide a conversion instruction or certify an interfaith pairing as legally registrable. Explain both people’s circumstances to a qualified lawyer before choosing a ceremony, signing declarations or relying on an online result. Any decision about religion must be voluntary. Our guide to marrying a Pakistani in Pakistan discusses cross-border planning in more detail.

Nationality changes the questions to ask

When one partner is Pakistani and the other is a foreign national, identity, immigration and consular checks may be relevant. For attestation of marriage records involving a foreign spouse, MOFA’s checklist calls for the foreign spouse’s passport, Pakistani visa and entry-date evidence. Attestation requirements should not be confused with a complete marriage-eligibility test.

If both people are foreign nationals, seek case-specific confirmation from the relevant registration authority and their embassies before making arrangements. A tool’s decision to stop a case is not proof of a nationwide legal prohibition. Do not treat a general guide as either an approval or a rejection of that couple’s legal options.

A previous marriage needs more than a status label

If either person is divorced or widowed, have the relevant records and their legal effect checked. A separation or pending case should not be entered as a completed divorce. Effective dates and any applicable waiting period need individual consideration.

For a Muslim man with an existing marriage, section 6 of the Muslim Family Laws Ordinance addresses prior written permission from the Arbitration Council. An existing marriage should therefore be disclosed for review. For later record issues, read why a valid court marriage can fail on paper.

Questions before you proceed

Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum age for court marriage in Pakistan?

In ICT, Punjab and Sindh, the cited child-marriage laws define a child as a person under 18, whether male or female. Other jurisdictions are outside this summary. Confirm the applicable local law; being 18 or older does not satisfy every marriage requirement.

Is free consent required for court marriage?

Both people should freely agree to the marriage. Pressure, threats or force require independent advice and, where appropriate, help from the relevant authority. A form, affidavit or online result does not substitute for genuine consent.

Can a Muslim woman marry a non-Muslim man in Pakistan?

This situation needs individual advice on the applicable personal law and marriage route before arrangements are made. This check does not certify the pairing as eligible or provide a conversion instruction. Ask a qualified lawyer to review the specific circumstances.

Can a Muslim man marry a Christian or Jewish woman in Pakistan?

Have the proposed marriage and registration route reviewed under the applicable law. A broad statement about religious categories alone does not establish that a particular marriage can be registered or recognised. This guide does not guarantee registration for an interfaith couple.

Can two foreign nationals get married in Pakistan?

Obtain case-specific confirmation from the responsible registration authority and the couple’s embassies before making arrangements. The cited foreign-spouse attestation guidance does not establish a universal rule for two foreign nationals, and this online check is not a legal determination of their options.

Can a Pakistani marry a foreign national in Pakistan?

Such a couple should have the applicable marriage route, identity evidence and immigration or consular requirements reviewed. MOFA publishes attestation requirements for records involving a foreign spouse. See our linked foreign-national guide for a fuller preparation discussion.

Does the eligibility check save my answers?

The questionnaire keeps answers in the page’s memory and does not save submissions in WordPress. Sharing is optional: you review the message, consent and choose WhatsApp or email, then send it yourself. The website’s other services and your selected communication app have separate privacy practices.

Does completing the check guarantee registration?

No. It is a preparation tool, not an eligibility certificate or registration approval. The relevant authority and a qualified lawyer must confirm the facts, applicable law and evidence. Ask for review before paying for arrangements or relying on a result.
