Form B in English: CRC Translation & Overseas Use Guide
Understand child registration records, birth evidence and translation formalities for the UK, US, Canada, Australia and UAE.
Start with the requested evidence
Does your child’s CRC need translation?
A Pakistani Form B, also called a Child Registration Certificate (CRC), may need a translation when its relevant content is in Urdu and the receiving authority requires documents in an accepted language. Whether the CRC itself is acceptable evidence—and whether certification, an affidavit, notarization or attestation is needed—depends on the application and receiving authority.

What Is Form B or a Child Registration Certificate?
Form B is the common name for NADRA’s Child Registration Certificate, or CRC. It records a child in the national identity database and supports identification and the recorded relationship with parents or a guardian.
NADRA describes CRC and Juvenile Card as identity documents for children under 18. Its current page shows older and newer formats and age-related biometric and expiry arrangements. Read the document you have: do not assume that every CRC has the same fields, includes several children or is entirely in Urdu.
A local civil birth record is a separate document. NADRA’s CRC application requirements refer to a computerized local birth registration certificate for inland births. This helps explain why the certificate used to register a child and the resulting NADRA identity record should not be casually described as the same record.
Official basis: NADRA CRC and Juvenile Card; NADRA Services Charter. Follow the source’s application scope.
Form B vs Birth Certificate vs Family Registration Certificate
CRC records child identity, a birth certificate records a civil birth event, and FRC describes family composition. Their roles overlap in some evidence packages, but they are not universally interchangeable.
On a small screen, scroll the table sideways to read every column.
| Document and issuer | Purpose | Recorded information | Evidence focus | Translation | Interchangeability |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Form B / CRC NADRA | Child’s national identity registration | Child and parent/guardian details as printed; formats vary | Child identity and recorded relationships | Depends on actual text and recipient’s languages | Use as a substitute only where instructions expressly allow it. |
| Birth Registration Certificate Relevant local registration authority | Civil registration of a birth | Birth particulars and parent details in the issued record | Birth-event evidence | Check whether the whole required record is already in an accepted language | Do not replace it with CRC merely because both show a birth date. |
| FRC NADRA | Record of family composition | Family members and their relationships; category affects coverage | Family composition | Check actual language and requested declaration | Not a universal substitute for an individual birth or identity document. |
If a checklist asks for a birth certificate, start with that requirement. There are specific exceptions: the US consular Pakistan schedule lists CRC and FRC as alternative birth evidence. That is an application-context rule, not a reason to treat the documents as equivalent for Canada, Australia or every other institution.
Official basis: NADRA CRC and Juvenile Card; NADRA FRC; US State Department Pakistan records. Follow the source’s application scope.
Does My Form B Need an English Translation?
Only if the relevant content is outside the languages accepted for your submission, or the recipient specifically asks for a translation. First establish whether the CRC itself is requested or accepted.
Inspect every page, required field, stamp and annotation. A bilingual heading does not establish that all entered details are in an accepted language. Conversely, a fully usable English or French record may not need an additional translation for an IRCC application; check its instructions and any remaining Urdu entries.
Obtain the exact application checklist. Separate four questions: which record is required, what languages are accepted, what the translator must declare, and what copies or authentication must accompany it. Canada accepts English or French under the cited IRCC rules; the other sections explain their own scopes.
Official basis: GOV.UK visitor evidence; IRCC visitor paper Guide 5256. Follow the source’s application scope.
Form B for Overseas Applications
This guide covers the UK, US, Canada, Australia and UAE. In each case, distinguish acceptance of the source record from the requirements for translating it.
UK Visas and Immigration
For UK visitors, submitted documents outside English or Welsh need a full translation that the Home Office can independently verify. Include the translator’s accuracy confirmation, date, full name, signature and contact details. Family-route guidance also calls for certified translations of non-English/non-Welsh evidence.
For a child’s visitor application, the relationship-evidence guidance gives birth or adoption documents as examples. It does not establish a blanket requirement to submit Form B. Follow your visa route’s list and clarify whether a CRC answers the specific evidence request.
Official basis: GOV.UK visitor evidence; GOV.UK family-visa evidence. Follow the source’s application scope.
USCIS Submissions
A CRC with foreign-language entries submitted to USCIS needs the entire record rendered into English. The translator must certify completeness, accuracy and ability to translate the source language. Section 103.2(b)(3) does not itself require a notary or an “USCIS-approved translator”. Whether CRC is appropriate evidence is a separate question under the relevant form instructions.
Official basis: 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3). Follow the source’s application scope.
US Consular and Immigrant-Visa Applications
The Pakistan reciprocity schedule names locally issued Birth Registration Certificates and expressly lists NADRA CRC/B-Form or FRC as alternatives. It also notes that contemporaneous evidence, such as school records, can supplement documents where a birth date needs closer review. Follow the consular case instructions; do not extend this alternative-document rule to unrelated applications.
The State Department’s general immigrant-visa civil-document instructions differ from USCIS: they require certified translations for documents outside English or the official language of the country from which you are applying. Check the interview post’s instructions as well. When a translation is needed, the translator signs a statement addressing accuracy and competence.
Official basis: US State Department Pakistan records; US immigrant-visa civil documents. Follow the source’s application scope.
Form B/CRC for Canada Immigration and Visa Applications
IRCC’s language rules generally address documents outside English or French. The required translation package varies by application; neither a translated CRC nor the word “notarized” resolves which civil record or translator qualification the checklist requires.
Family sponsorship and dependent children
Guide 5289 asks for a certified copy of non-English/non-French source documents unless the checklist says otherwise, together with a translation and the applicable translator affidavit. Its affidavit exemption is for Canadian-certified translators belonging to a provincial or territorial professional body. IMM 5534 separately requests birth or baptismal certificates for the sponsored person and dependants, and refers to country-specific requirements. It does not establish a universal CRC-as-birth-certificate rule.
Express Entry uses different wording
The Express Entry instructions recognize qualifying professional-association certification in Canada or abroad. They permit the affidavit route when a certified translator cannot provide the translation, and distinguish a scan of an original from a scan of the certified copy used as the translation source. Do not copy this definition or scan rule into every family, visitor or citizenship application.
Who may translate and swear the affidavit
The cited visitor paper guide excludes translation by applicants and their family members. An affidavit is the translator’s sworn statement about proficiency and accuracy, taken by an authorized oath-taker. In Canada, authority can include a notary or commissioner; outside Canada, the guide identifies a notary, subject to local authority. A true-copy certification instead concerns comparison with the original. Canadian provincial rules and school or court instructions must be checked separately.
Does IRCC require a notarized Form B translation?
There is no universal answer from the word “IRCC” alone. Guide 5289’s translator-affidavit condition and IMM 5534’s notarized/certified wording must be read together for a dependent-child case. Confirm the current checklist, translator status, source-copy requirement and any clarification from IRCC. A stamp on a translation does not prove that the translator swore the required affidavit or holds qualifying professional certification.
Official basis: IRCC family sponsorship Guide 5289; IRCC dependent-child checklist IMM 5534; IRCC IMM 5534 PDF; IRCC Express Entry instructions; IRCC visitor paper Guide 5256. Follow the source’s application scope.
Form B/CRC for Australian Visa and Immigration Applications
For the subclass 600 tourist stream applied for outside Australia, Home Affairs requires English translations of non-English documents and both the original-language record and translation in the application. Translators working in Australia must have NAATI accreditation under the page’s terminology. Overseas translators do not have to be accredited, but the translation must give their name, address, telephone, relevant qualifications and experience in English.
That stream says documents do not need certification unless requested. Do not turn this into a rule for every visa or citizenship application. Its child-evidence instructions identify alternatives when a birth certificate cannot be provided, including certain government identity and family records. This is conditional; it does not specifically name every CRC format as acceptable.
Does a Form B translation for Australia have to be NAATI-certified?
For this visitor stream, the translator’s location matters: the Australia-based route requires NAATI credentials, while the overseas route requires the listed translator particulars. Other recipients can set different rules. Check a claimed NAATI credential using NAATI’s official verification tool; a Pakistani notary stamp is not that credential.
Can a translation prepared in Pakistan be used for an Australian visa application?
The cited overseas-translator route allows preparation outside Australia subject to the stated details and the applicable evidence requirements. Before ordering, confirm that the provider will include those details and that CRC is acceptable for the requested purpose. This does not establish that any particular provider’s standard package complies with every visa, school or court rule.
Official basis: Home Affairs subclass 600 overseas tourist stream; Home Affairs subclass 600 onshore tourist stream; NAATI credential verification. Follow the source’s application scope.
Form B for UAE Use
Ask the UAE recipient whether it needs CRC, a civil birth certificate or another record. MOFA’s general attestation service requires Arabic/English documents or an accompanying legally certified translation, with relevant prior authentication. The Islamabad mission describes prior Pakistan MOFA authentication for Pakistan-issued documents under its route. Confirm CRC-specific handling rather than assuming translation completes the process.
Official basis: UAE MOFA attestation; UAE Embassy Islamabad. Follow the source’s application scope.
Overseas Education and Other Institutional Applications
Schools, courts and other institutions may set their own document and translator rules within the same country. Ask for written instructions, including whether an English/French bilingual record is sufficient, whether all pages are needed and what evidence of parentage or guardianship is required. Immigration guidance is not automatically the institution’s checklist.
Destination requirements at a glance
This table summarizes the cited examples. It is not an acceptance list for CRC, and it does not replace the current checklist for your route.
On a small screen, scroll the table sideways to read every column.
| Destination / application | Language | Translator / certification | Records / authentication | Official source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| UK visitor / family routes | English or Welsh | Visitor: full independently verifiable translation with declaration details | CRC necessity and relationship evidence depend on route | GOV.UK visitor evidence; GOV.UK family-visa evidence |
| USCIS | English | Full translation; certified completeness, accuracy and competence | Relevant form determines evidence; no notary imposed by this provision | 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3) |
| US consular immigrant visa | English or applicable country’s official language under general guidance | Signed accuracy/competence statement when translation required | Pakistan schedule permits CRC/FRC alternate birth evidence; check post | US State Department Pakistan records; US immigrant-visa civil documents |
| Canada / IRCC | English or French | Program-specific certified-translator or affidavit route; no self/family translation under cited guidance | Source copy and birth evidence follow checklist; EE differs from family sponsorship | IRCC family sponsorship Guide 5289; IRCC Express Entry instructions |
| Australia subclass 600 overseas tourist stream | English | Australia-based NAATI route; overseas translator particulars and qualifications | Original and translation; no copy certification unless asked; conditional birth alternatives | Home Affairs subclass 600 overseas tourist stream |
| UAE attestation / recipient | Arabic or English, or legally certified translation for MOFA route | Check recipient and MOFA/mission conditions | Authentication is separate; verify CRC route | UAE MOFA attestation; UAE Embassy Islamabad |

Translation, Certification, Affidavits, Notarization and Attestation Explained
These steps answer different questions. Identify the exact declaration, credential, copy or authentication requested before arranging work.
On a small screen, scroll the table sideways to read every column.
| Process | What it does | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Translation | Conveys the document’s text in another language. | Does not change the underlying registration record. |
| Certified translation | Translation with the declaration or professional credentials required by the recipient. | A provider’s certificate is not automatically Canadian association certification or NAATI certification. |
| Translator affidavit | Sworn statement by the person who translated the record. | Not the same as an applicant’s declaration or an unsworn accuracy certificate. |
| Certified source copy | Authorized comparison of a copy with its original. | Does not certify translation quality. |
| Notarization | A defined notarial act, such as administering the translator’s oath. | Identify the act; a stamp alone does not explain it. |
| MOFA attestation | Foreign-ministry authentication under the applicable document procedure. | Not a substitute for a translator’s declaration or credentials. |
| Apostille | Origin authentication through an applicable Hague Convention route. | Check document eligibility, destination and objections; not content certification. |
| Embassy / destination authentication | Further authentication where the route requires it. | Not a universal requirement or completed merely by translating the record. |
For Canada, separate the translator’s affidavit from certification of the source copy. For Australia, distinguish translator credentials from notarization. Neither comparison authorizes a provider to describe all formalities as completed when only a translation and notary stamp have been supplied.
Official basis: IRCC visitor paper Guide 5256; NAATI credential verification; Pakistan MOFA SOPs; HCCH Apostille status table. Follow the source’s application scope.
Does Form B Need MOFA Attestation or an Apostille?
The intended use and recipient determine whether authentication is needed. Do not add an apostille simply because the document will travel to Canada or Australia.
Pakistan MOFA’s SOPs say documents issued by NADRA are to be directly attested by the ministry. This provides general category guidance rather than a separate complete CRC submission checklist. Confirm the original, copy and any supporting documents required for your CRC with MOFA. The local birth-certificate checklist should not be treated as the CRC procedure.
For an apostille, check the current HCCH status table, bilateral applicability, objections and the competent authority’s document rules. An apostille addresses origin authentication, not accuracy of the translation or suitability as birth evidence. The Canadian and Australian examples above should be followed on their own terms; they are not general apostille mandates.
Where UAE mission authentication is requested, confirm the current Pakistan-issued document route and the eligibility of the specific CRC and translation. Keep authentication of the record and any translator declaration distinct.
Official basis: Pakistan MOFA SOPs; HCCH Apostille status table; UAE Embassy Islamabad. Follow the source’s application scope.
What Should You Provide for an Accurate Form B Translation?
Provide the complete readable source, the application checklist and reliable reference spellings. Supporting documents may clarify a spelling, but must not silently replace the CRC’s entries.
- Scan all relevant pages in high resolution, retaining edges and every printed entry.
- Include stamps, handwritten annotations and reverse-side text where present.
- Check that names, dates, registration and identity numbers are legible.
- Provide passport spellings as a separately identified transliteration reference.
- Identify the destination, visa or other application type, and receiving authority.
- Supply the current document checklist and any written translation or authentication request.
- For Canada, confirm translator status, affidavit and source-copy instructions.
- For Australia, confirm the translator’s location and required credentials or particulars.
- Review the draft against the source; flag genuine inconsistencies before finalization.
Children’s records contain sensitive information. Do not post a CRC in public comments or use an unredacted child’s document as a sample. Confirm the recipient and private handling arrangements before sharing a full scan. This guide has no upload form.
Official basis: US State Department scan instructions. Follow the source’s application scope.
Names, Dates of Birth and Parent Details: Common Problems
Preserve the source record and identify discrepancies. A translation can explain the text; it cannot correct the original registration.
Check the Urdu name against the proposed English spelling and the passport. A faithful transliteration may follow a passport reference, but a different recorded name or parent entry needs separate explanation or correction. Treat registration numbers and identity numbers as different fields if the source labels them differently.
Dates can be ambiguous when numerical formats differ. Do not swap day and month without a basis in the original. Keep the recorded date and flag uncertainty in a clearly identified note. If a CRC, birth certificate and passport give conflicting dates or parent details, ask the issuing authority and recipient what evidence or correction is required; do not choose the most convenient version.
Official basis: NADRA CRC and Juvenile Card. Follow the source’s application scope.
Can an Older or Partly Illegible Form B Be Translated?
Older formats can be translated from the information they actually contain. Missing or unreadable fields must be identified rather than filled from a newer format.
Try a clearer scan before treating an entry as illegible. A supporting record can help the translator understand what needs checking, but its contents must not be presented as text printed on the CRC. Any supplementary explanation should be separate and accurately labelled.
Ask whether the recipient accepts the older record or needs a current CRC or other evidence. NADRA’s current CRC page includes expiry arrangements, so do not promise that every old CRC or its translation remains suitable indefinitely. Renewal, reprint or correction is a separate administrative matter.
Official basis: NADRA CRC and Juvenile Card. Follow the source’s application scope.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Check the record, translation and supporting formalities separately. An attractive layout cannot compensate for omitted text or the wrong document.
- Sending a cropped or incomplete scan, or omitting written reverse sides.
- Translating selected names while ignoring stamps, labels and other relevant entries.
- Replacing the CRC’s name or date with information from another record without disclosure.
- Submitting FRC or CRC as birth evidence where the application does not allow that substitute.
- Using machine output without competent review and any required human declaration.
- Assuming a Pakistani notary stamp proves Canadian translator certification or supplies a sworn translator affidavit.
- Treating notarization as a substitute for an applicable NAATI credential.
- Presenting translation as completed MOFA or embassy authentication.

Common questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Form B the same as a Child Registration Certificate?
Form B or B-Form is the common name used for the NADRA Child Registration Certificate, or CRC. Check the title and issuer on the actual record, especially for an older format. A CRC is a child registration and identity record; it should not be confused with every document that records a birth.
Is Form B the same as a birth certificate?
No. A CRC is issued by NADRA, whereas a civil Birth Registration Certificate comes from the relevant local registration authority. Both may contain birth and parent details, but their purpose and issuer differ. Some applications permit alternatives, including the US consular schedule; that does not make the records universally interchangeable.
What is the difference between Form B and FRC?
CRC concerns a child’s registration and identity; FRC reflects family composition in NADRA’s records. The FRC category affects which family relationships are shown. Check the recipient’s requirement before choosing between them. A request for an individual birth record should not automatically be answered with a family-composition certificate.
Does every Form B need translation?
No. Check the actual language of every required entry and the recipient’s accepted languages. A translation is relevant when the submitted content cannot be accepted in its original language or the authority specifically requests one. Separately confirm whether Form B is the correct document for the evidence request.
Does a bilingual CRC still need translation?
A bilingual label or heading is not enough to decide. Inspect the child and parent entries, stamps and annotations as well. If the complete required content is already in an accepted language, ask whether anything else is needed. Remaining Urdu content may still need translation under the applicable application instructions.
Can Form B replace a birth certificate for immigration?
Only where the particular instructions allow it. The US State Department’s Pakistan reciprocity schedule expressly lists CRC and FRC as alternatives in its consular context. That permission does not establish an equivalent rule for Canada, Australia or every USCIS case. Check the actual checklist before substituting a document.
What translation certification does USCIS require?
For foreign-language documents submitted to USCIS, the translator certifies that the English translation covers the complete record accurately and that they are competent to translate the source language. The governing provision does not itself require notarization or an approved-provider list. The form instructions separately determine which source evidence is needed.
Does IRCC accept Form B as a birth certificate?
Do not assume that it does for every application. The dependent-child checklist requests birth or baptismal certificates and country-specific evidence, without establishing universal CRC equivalence. Check your current checklist and obtain clarification if you intend to use CRC instead. Translating the CRC does not resolve whether it is suitable birth evidence.
Does Canada require an English or French translation?
The cited IRCC instructions address documents outside English or French, so either translation language can meet that language condition. The document and translator formalities still depend on the application. A bilingual record must be checked in full; untranslated entries or seals may remain relevant even when some text is English.
When does IRCC require a translator affidavit?
It depends on the program and translator status. Family-sponsorship guidance exempts Canadian-certified translators from its affidavit requirement; Express Entry describes a different certification definition and fallback route. An affidavit is the translator’s sworn statement, not merely a provider certificate. Follow the applicable current instructions rather than combining rules from different programs.
Is a notarized translation enough for Canada?
The word notarized does not establish every required element. Identify whether the notary administered the translator’s oath, certified a source copy or performed another act. Also check professional certification and the application’s document checklist. A package can have a notary stamp while still missing the particular affidavit or source evidence requested.
Does Australia require a NAATI-certified Form B translation?
For the cited subclass 600 visitor stream, translators in Australia require NAATI accreditation under Home Affairs’ wording. Translators outside Australia follow the overseas-details route instead. Another visa or institution may have different instructions. Check the translator’s location and current requirements; notarization is not a substitute for a required NAATI credential.
Can a translator outside Australia prepare the translation?
The cited visitor instructions allow overseas translators without NAATI accreditation, provided the translation includes the required identification, contact details, qualifications and experience in English. Original-language evidence is also supplied. Confirm the exact visa instructions and provider’s documentation before ordering; this route does not guarantee acceptance by every Australian court or school.
Is notarization always required?
No single notarization rule covers every destination and application. A required translator’s declaration, sworn affidavit, professional credential and authenticated copy are different things. Ask the receiving authority which act is needed. Neither a service’s standard package nor an informal request for certified documents settles the formalities for your particular case.
Does a translated Form B also need MOFA attestation?
Translation does not automatically include MOFA authentication. Check whether the recipient requests it and confirm the CRC process with Pakistan MOFA. The published SOPs contain general NADRA-document guidance, but this guide does not turn a separate birth-certificate checklist into a verified CRC checklist. Destination or mission authentication may involve further steps.
Can passport spellings be used in the translation?
They can guide transliteration when they faithfully reflect the source name. Keep the passport as a separately identified reference and do not hide a genuinely different name or parent detail on the CRC. Flag discrepancies before finalization and ask whether the recipient needs supporting evidence or correction of the underlying record.
What if the date of birth differs between documents?
Preserve the CRC’s recorded date and identify the conflict. Check whether a numerical format has been misunderstood before deciding that the records disagree. If there is a real discrepancy, seek guidance on correction or supporting evidence from the issuer and recipient. The translator should not silently choose a preferred date.
Can missing information be added from another record?
It should not appear as though it was printed on the CRC. A supporting record can help clarify what requires checking, but additional facts need a separate, accurately labelled explanation where appropriate. Follow the recipient’s instructions for supplementary evidence. Do not insert fields merely because a newer CRC format contains them.
Should stamps and handwritten notes be translated?
Relevant text in stamps, seals, annotations and handwritten entries should be accounted for when a complete translation is required. Include readable images of any reverse-side writing. Describe a signature or non-text feature where appropriate rather than recreating it. If content is unreadable, identify the limitation instead of guessing.
Can an old Form B be translated?
Yes, its legible text can be rendered faithfully. Older formats may differ from current ones, so retain what is actually present and mark missing or unreadable information honestly. Check separately whether the authority accepts the older record or needs a current CRC or other evidence. Translation does not update registration or expiry.
Where can I order a certified Form B translation?
Use the PKLegal.org Form B service page for the current ordering process, fee, turnaround and sample. Before confirming work, provide the destination and application checklist, especially Canadian affidavit or Australian credential requirements. This educational guide does not take orders or establish that the standard package meets every institution’s rules.
